Udaipur, with its serene lakes and grand palaces is a dream for photographers. But, to truly capture this city’s magic, visit Lake Pichola between sunset and sunrise. That is what I did at my hotel near Lake Pichola; the lovely Bloom Boutique | Lake Pichola. This heritage hotel, which was once a haveli added an extra layer of history and comfort to my journey. Let me take you on a storytelling tour of this adventure.

Arriving at Bloom Boutique | Lake Pichola

The moment I checked into Bloom Boutique | Lake Pichola, I was transported to another era. The 200-year-old haveli was replete with antique furniture and corridors whispering stories of the past. Despite the historic ambience, the hotel ensured I felt comfortable with all its modern amenities. My room offered a perfect view of Lake Pichola, allowing me to click amazing pictures at any time of day and night.

Sunsets Over City Palace and Ambrai Ghat

I had my camera ready and started my evening at the City Palace, a five-minute walk from Bloom. This majestic palace offered such great views of the lake, especially as the sun began to set. There were intricate carvings, grand courtyards, and the golden glow of the setting sun glinting off the water created some stunning photos.

As the sun set, painting the sky with hues of pink and orange, I headed to Ambrai Ghat, a favourite spot for locals and photographers alike. The scene from here was like a painting: Lake Pichola glistening, Jagmandir Island, just a 12-minute boat ride away, glowed softly in the distance. The City Palace and the hills that surrounded it added depth to the frame, and I couldn’t stop taking photographs.

Rooftop Delights at Bloom Boutique

Then, I was off to Bloom Boutique for some downtime, at their rooftop restaurant, an excellent place to unwind. Sipping a cup of chai I watched the lake transform under the moonlight. Gentle ripples, the silhouette of Bagore Ki Haveli – a mere 4-minute walk from Bloom-and the soft hum of distant music created a poetic atmosphere. I captured a few night shots with long exposure to catch the shimmer of the city lights reflecting on the water.

A Night Walk at Bagore Ki Haveli

Rejuvenated, I walked to Bagore Ki Haveli. This 18th-century mansion was full of life during the night and was beautifully lit hosting musical performances of different traditional folk dances. The building with delicate windows and arches served as a great backdrop for creative photography. The dancers in traditional attire and the soft light of the lamps made the haveli a beautiful sight.

Back to Bloom for Some Rest

I went back to the comfort of Bloom Boutique. As I tucked myself in on the soft CloudBed™, I fell asleep pretty soon. I have never had such sound sleep. This comfy bed paired with the soothing sound of lake water made sure I had the most perfect night. After such a restful night, I woke up energised, smiling ears to ear, eager to explore.

Sunrise at Sajjangarh Monsoon Palace

I woke up early before the break of dawn to prepare for my sunrise trek to the Sajjangarh Monsoon Palace, which was a 20-minute drive from Bloom. The palace is located atop a hill offering a stunning view of Udaipur. As the first rays of sunlight touched the city, it painted the whole city golden, and I captured some of my best photos here. It was breathtaking seeing Lake Pichola surrounded by palaces and the boats gently drifting across the lake. The morning mist is a mystical touch and  waking up early has its own advantages.

Breakfast at Bloom and visit Saheliyon-ki-Bari

Since my heart was filled with memories now, I headed back to Bloom Boutique for breakfast. I had parathas and masala chai on the rooftop overlooking the lake, which now bathed in soft morning light. The staff at Bloom always made sure that everything was perfect and were quite welcoming and attentive.

I also visited Saheliyon-ki-Bari. This historic garden, just 10 minutes from Bloom, had fountains and marble pavilions that felt like a secret corner of Udaipur. The sound of water, the thick foliage, and the dainty morning light created placid, candid shots that belonged to a storybook.
