Hostel Life, a Total Thumbs up – By Riya Gulati

In order to fit in the society and please everyone, we tend change ourselves (unconsciously) as per the wills of others and sometimes we lose our values in the midst. At a certain age, sometimes due to exposure, total freedom or peer pressure vices seem to be quite appealing but not getting drained into it is our choice. We always have a choice over our emotions, thoughts, and actions. It is true that one dirty fish can spoil the whole pond, hence, you are required to say ‘No’ to the wrong persuader(s) and Dare to be Rare. This is something I learnt from my hostel life which was kind of a Gurukul for me. Prabodh Vidya Bhavan, which is regarded to be Pune’s top-notch hostel not only imbibed ethical values but also helped me in maintaining an equilibrium.
How my Hostel Life taught me in trumping over myself?

SHARED HAPPINESS= SIMPLE HAPPINESS
 PVB is the hub of mixed regional and cultural denominations. PVBians are known to be quite welcoming and celebrative. We equally celebrated all the festivals and collectively rejoiced the regional foods. From one’s success to birthday(s) to festivals, we appreciated every moment. Ganesh Chaturthi, Navratri, Gudi Padwa, Lohri, Holi, Diwali, Christmas, etc, almost all festivals are celebrated grandly which boosts up the spirits and brush up the intellectual power. AN EMPTY MIND IS DEVIL’S HOUSE
 To fight against idleness and inaction, we were given recurrent motivational lectures from teachers and seniors. PVB provides top-class infrastructure with modern amenities which makes the living cosy and worry-free. From enlightening library to frisky-cosy gym to refreshing terrace to spick and span rooms to delectable fourfold meals to night prayers, the hostel provided constructive ambience. The place is quite happening that one did not have time to fetch bleakness.

YOU RISE BY LIFTING OTHERS
 Despite of regional and cultural diversification, we all were united. It was quite common to see kind gestures from everyone on daily basis. Whether it was teachers, roomies, other hostel mates, or the staff members- everyone was cooperative. PVB has enlightened us with peaceful mind and moral values which has helped us to discover the positive side of our personality and develop an understanding and respect for others. The enriching environment thus make PVB a second home.

TIME IS THE GREATEST TEACHER
 With time you understand things better. In the initial days of my hostel life, I used to ponder that the hostel is quite strict. Few months later when I got used to it and adapted its style, I experienced a disciplined life. Liberal restrictions are essential to keep a check on yourself and develop the ability of self-control. From being punctual to compassionate to self-reliant and to practice self-care, all boosted up my confidence.

YOU ARE THE MASTER OF YOUR SEA, OH!
 PVB has played a significant role in refining our soul, mind and body via meditation, prayers, recitation of powerful mantras, and inspirational Monday sessions by Nalini ma’am. PVB has not only enriched our inner world but also the outer world.

I, hereby express my gratitude to Nalini ma’am, Pallavi ma’am, Shobha ma’am, Rekha ma’am, Prabha ma’am, hostel mates and all the staff members for their unconditional love and support.
